Woodcock feathers are the superb soft hackles, but due to their scarcity, they have often been overlooked by modern fly tyers.

The marginal over-coverts feathers have a distinctive chestnut and black pattern, which are often preferred for imitation March Browns. While the the subtler, pale brown barred under feathers are used for patterns such as Winter Brown.

The Cul de Becada are feathers of soft rachis and short fibers. They surround the sebaceous gland located on the bird's rump. They are found between the large tail feathers, ending in a white triangle, and the more reddish ones, which are piled on top of these.

The CBD is very versatile as it can be used to make hackles, tags, ephemeral wings or caddis roofs.
