Backing Guideline

Backing is a line made up of many braided strands and is available in different tensile strengths. Braided Backing Guideline is made of polyester, and is the first layer of line you will put on your fly reel.

You need the backing to fill the extra space on the reel. For the same reason you would use a large arbor reel, the line acquires less memory and allows you to retrieve it more quickly. You also need it in case you fool a big fish, because the fish needs to be able to run. Without backing on the reel, the longest the fish will be able to run is the length of the line.

• 20lbs - 9Kg
  • This is normal for trout fishing, with line weights up to #7.
• 30lbs - 16,6Kg
  • This is the most common drag for salmon fishing, with line weights from #8 to 10.
